ANACORTES OYSTER RUN
09/23/2012
29th Annual Oyster Run
September 23, 2012

"LARGEST MOTORCYCLE RUN IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST"

This is a one-day event, although a lot of folks come early, stay in the area and make a weekend out of it!

"History of the "Oyster Run"

It all started with a few guys getting together at the end of the summer to go for a ride and eat some oysters.

The year was 1981

Limp Lee had just returned from months of working in Alaska, He talked with a few guys and they all met at what was then the California Tavern in Marysville.

They then decided to ride along HWY 9, stop at some places along the way and end up in Everson to have oyster cocktails.

The next year a few more people joined in, the next year a few more, and by the fourth year there were almost 200 bikes. We couldn't believe it!

Well, as the years went by there we just too many people to have an organized run up hwy 9, so Limp Lee talked to the beautiful city of Anacortes about having the run there. I think at first the town was not real hip on the idea, as they were not sure what to expect and most of the town closed up as the bikes rolled in. But soon more and more businesses stayed open and now the whole town has joined in..... and the rest is history.

ANACORTES OKTOBERFEST
10/05/2012
The Anacortes Chamber of Commerce kicks off an inaugural beer festival on Friday, October 5th from 5-9pm and Saturday, October 6 from 12:00-5:00 p.m. at the Port Warehouse in Anacortes. Anacortes Oktoberfest - "Beer on the Pier" - the event promises to be a highlight for beer lovers. The $20 entry fee entitles attendees to six pours; additional pours may be purchased for $1.50 each. The event will also feature live music and a variety of food vendors. For those staying over, there will be a number of local events on Saturday evening.

Event co-organizer Rick Star of Rockfish Grill/Anacortes Brewery stated: "Through our business, we attend many beer festivals throughout the Northwest each year. Our goal with the Anacortes Oktoberfest was to take the best elements of each, provide patrons with a host of choices, and build the event into an enjoyable experience for brewers and attendees alike. Gauged by brewery participation, the event will be the largest Oktoberfest in Washington State, providing event-goers with an opportunity to meet-and-greet brewers from throughout the Pacific Northwest. We look forward to building a wonderful recurring festival-one that people will want to return to year after year."
