Fidalgo Island is positioned at the easternmost
portion of the San Juan archipelago. Accessible by bridges
from the east and south, via Whidbey Island, it is only 90
minutes from downtown Seattle or Vancouver, Canada. It is
also port to the Washington State Ferry system that serves
the rest of the San Juan Islands and Sidney / Victoria, Canada.
Fidalgo's landscape is as varied as it is beautiful.
Mount Erie, rises 1300 feet to provide breathtaking vistas
to the east and west. Two square miles of public forestlands
at the center of the island are dotted by fresh water lakes
stocked with fresh game fish. And, miles of coastline present
a variety of faces
.from spectacular, soaring cliffs
to walk-out beaches. Capping this natural drama is the Deception
Pass Bridge that separates Fidalgo from Whidbey Island. The
incredible views from this landmark attraction, and the adjoining
full-service campground, have made it the busiest park in
Washington State.
Fidalgo is also home to four major marinas,
making the area homeport for thousands of sailing and power
yachts. Golfers can enjoy the links at Similk Beach or one
of several other courses within easy driving distance. Or,
there are a myriad of other recreational opportunities for
all ages, interests and skill levels. These include hiking,
kayaking, sport fishing, whale watching, bird watching and
much more.
Today,
approximately 15,000 people are permanent residents of Fidalgo
Island. They've arrived from New York, Florida, California
.and
all parts in between. With their arrival, the quaint, waterside
town of Anacortes has developed to meet the needs of its new
community. A full array of services are now available, including
a regional medical center and adjoining clinics. The new Anacortes
Library is a state-of-the art literary center. And, Old Town
specialty shops, antique stores and art galleries are bursting
with activity.
Fidalgo Living just keeps getting better
..and
better. We hope you'll take this opportunity to explore our
web site and our wonderful island.
